flashback: R vs. B ...
Well, it’s been an interesting year in a Chinese proverb kind of way. Suffice to say that a life-style change is upon me which will provide endless challenges for my hobbies. In one last hurrah, however, I did get the opportunity to play a classic war-game. I think if my opponent and I were wearing ties, jackets and smoking pipes it would have been easy to confuse us with early war gamers of the 1960s.
Books -- a list for insurance purposes...
Needed to come up with replacement costs for my books for insurance purposes. Plus, maybe it will help prevent me from buying books I already have!

krupp conundrum...
I looked high and low to find a Krupp gun for my Spanish-American games. I knew Emhar made a 1/35 scale model but I could not find a retailer who had one in stock. So, the week after the big Span-Am game I attended the Indianapolis Toy Soldier show and what were the first things I found? A 1/35 scale Emhar Krupp gun as well as a metal one by Britains (I think). Go figure. The metal one came with a limber which unfortunately needs repaired. That will be a later post.

las guasimas... lite?
'Splendid Little Warriors' had its first actual game. Overall, I'm fairly happy with the system. The scenario was kind of, sort of, based on the encounter at las Guasimas. In short, the Americans were advancing through the Cuban jungle on two parallel paths. There was a ridge running along their right. The parallel paths converged in scrub land after crossing a few jungle streams. The Spanish had a fortified location at the far end of the table. The American objective was to push the Spanish out of the fort. Subtle, eh?

more 'mericans...
The Splendid Little Warriors (hmmm... I think I'll use that as the name of my rules!) are also completed. There are a few more options in 54mm Americans for this period than there are for the Spanish. My Americans are composed of BMC and Armies in Plastic figures with a single old Marx Teddy Roosevelt thrown in for good measure.
Dons Done, Finished, Complete...
If wargaming projects ever really get finished, then this is probably it. Of course, I still have four American flags to attach. Of course, I still need horses for the caissons. Of course, casualty figures and terrain stuff would add to the overall enjoyment of the project. But I'm feeling like it's a done deal. It's taken a long time. Maybe it's just burn-out?
