my familia gladitoria...

Some projects never end. I have a collection of 25mm gladiators which are pretty much finished. But for some reason when I started gaming with 54mm figures I really wanted some big-fig gladiators. Of course, that was years ago.

Splendid Little Warriors...

One thing about having your toys packed away... you catch up on stuff. I did a little bit of verbal tweaking and formatting for my simple Spanish American War rules "Splendid Little Warriors." My goal for these rules was for a simple, fast play game appropriate for a fairly large number of players. They worked well for my 54mm las Guasimas Lite game.

You can download the rules here.

Oceanus Strategoi updated...

Well, I've moved and all my gaming stuff sits in storage. Nigh well inaccessible for now. But that's given me some time to get back to thinking about rules and rules writing. I recently saw my old ancient naval rules mentioned on The Miniatures Page and, upon seeing if they were still on my old site, I realized that I'd never finished uploading them! Since the old HTML format really wasn't all that user friendly I reformatted them as a *.PDF, made some clarifications, and included the ship charts, player aid sheet and a couple of other helpful tools.

This is probably one of the first sets of rules I wrote. The mechanics are pretty conventional but I think they hold up well.

You can download them from here.

flashback: R vs. B ...

Well, it’s been an interesting year in a Chinese proverb kind of way. Suffice to say that a life-style change is upon me which will provide endless challenges for my hobbies. In one last hurrah, however, I did get the opportunity to play a classic war-game. I think if my opponent and I were wearing ties, jackets and smoking pipes it would have been easy to confuse us with early war gamers of the 1960s.

Books -- a list for insurance purposes...

Needed to come up with replacement costs for my books for insurance purposes. Plus, maybe it will help prevent me from buying books I already have!

krupp conundrum...

I looked high and low to find a Krupp gun for my Spanish-American games. I knew Emhar made a 1/35 scale model but I could not find a retailer who had one in stock. So, the week after the big Span-Am game I attended the Indianapolis Toy Soldier show and what were the first things I found? A 1/35 scale Emhar Krupp gun as well as a metal one by Britains (I think). Go figure. The metal one came with a limber which unfortunately needs repaired. That will be a later post.
